Mental health is one of the most neglected areas of health people seldom consider mental health important, currently it is expected that the depression is going to be the 2nd largest morbidity for the human kind. People throughout the world are suffering from mental illnesses and it costs a lot for the economies. Lives of people are lost, who especially were in the peaks of their health physically, look pretty normal. Every minute in this world people commit suicide. About 80,000 people die of suicide every day. Many thousand more attempt it. The major reason of people committing suicide being depressed.

What is suicide

Suicide is when some one does an act which they know would lead to life threatening consequences. The methods of suicide are not limited to hanging by the neck, swallowing poison, drowning, jumping in front of a moving vehicle etc.

Why do people commit suicide?

If we look at the reasons for why people commit suicide they are mainly, due to problems with their relationships:

• close relatives
• Arguments, fights in the family or with significant other
• Love failures
• Un-accepting family members.
• Rejection from lover or
There are financial issues:
• like difficult financial situations often put people to commit suicide
• Unable to repay loans
• Loss of wages and income
• Loss of crops
• Monetary frauds.
The educational issues include:
• Failure in examinations
• Failure in studies
• Failures in Job examination.
Carrier issues include:
• Failure to secure a promotion or raise.
• Failure to get a job
• Being fired from a job
• Losing money.
• Not getting a particular job.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON AMONG THEM IS THE PRESENCE OF MENTAL ILLNESS

• Truth-yes! They are doing it for attention and there is something going on. They need help!!
• Truth-not talking about it can escalate the problem, one should discuss this subject openly.
• Truth-once they get help, they can go on to lead useful life

Create a safe environment for the person.
Maintain close observation of the person.
Maintain special care in giving medication.

How to manage if someone is suicidal

• The person should not be left alone. Arrangements must be made for the client to stay with family or friends.
• Focus on the current crisis and how it can be alleviated. Identify the client’s appraisals of how things are, and how things will be. Note how these appraisals change in changing contexts.
• Note the person’s reactivity to the crisis and how this can be changed. Discuss strategies and procedures for the management of anxiety, anger, and frustration.
• Work toward restoration of self- worth, status, morale, and control. Introduce alternatives to suicide.
• Rehearse cognitive reconstruction—more positive ways of thinking about the self, events, the past, the present, and the future.
• Identify experiences and actions that affirm self- worth and self-efficacy.
• Encourage movement toward the new reality, with the coping skills required to manage adaptively.
• Be available for ongoing therapeutic support and growth.

Conclusion

lives are lost because people are less valued. The people struggling with depression and other mental conditions needs love empathy and support that can bring back people treatment and help can save lives of so many people. No lives are perfect but people need to understand care and support can change the lives of people. Being people who care who give when you have more. There is a need to develop an attitude of asking and needing help and willing to accept the affection and care during times of crisis is also a necessary.
